Podiatrists are specialists who diagnose and treat biomechanical problems affecting the lower limb including the foot.
Sadly, one of the most commonly occurring podiatric problems called excess pronation is still not being recognised and treated in children. Currently over 50% of the population are estimated to suffer from this problem.
It does not just affect the feet but the entire body posture is affected - including the lower back.
During a 40-minute assessment, the Podiatrist thoroughly examines feet and legs, taking each joint in turn. Patients are also observed when walking and standing. After the examination the Podiatrist may prescribe corrective shoe inserts. The technical name for these is Orthotics.
